Iloilo Dinagyang Festival 2011 Pamukaw
Posted by on January 3, 2011
A few days before christmas I found myself walking along the streets of Iloilo. I was actually there to submit the requirments for the MEDIA ID of Audrey, Don and Fitz at the Dinagyang Foundation Office.
It just so happened that on the day I was in Iloilo, the city is also holding thee traditional DINAGYANG PAMUKAW.
PAMUKAW is taken from a Hiligaynon root word PUKAW, meaning to wake up. Pamukaw is not really a grand event. It is just a beginning of something big to happen, and that is the Dinagyang Festival 2011. Pamukaw is just a wake up call for every one. It is just a reminder to every Ilonggo that the Dinagyang Festifval is coming so
During the Pamukaw, all the participating tribes are required to join the parade. The ati warriors are not on the full battle regalia yet. Usually , theyre just wearing sponsored tshirts and do some simple streetdancing routine.
During the Pamukaw parade, loud drumbeats can be heard all over, and its undeniable that the Dinagyang Fever can already be felt in Iloilo City!
This 2011, we will be seeing 14 tribes to compete during the Dinagyang Ati competition and 10 festivals compete during the Kasadyahan Festival.
Kasadyahan Festival is slated January 22, while the Dinagyang Ati Contest will be held on January 23. Dinagyang Festival of Iloilo has already been elevated to the Hall of Fame status as the Fest Tourism Event of the Philippines by the Association of Tourism Officers of the Philippines (ATOP) is the Grand Champion of the Aliwan Fiesta 2010.
