Sinamba sa Paraw Regatta Evening Performances
Posted by on February 18, 2011
Last night I was at the Freedom Grandstand in Iloilo as one of the judges for the annual Sinamba sa Paraw Regatta Mardi Gras Competition. The venue was jampacked.
This year, only 4 groups joined the competition +1 non competing group. although there was lesser number of participants, this did not mean that the level of performances also dropped.
yes, there were only four, but I must tell you. Judging them is very hard, as the performances were really good. The groups were just bursting with all the colors, and the Samba music is very infectious, it makes me want to dance while on stage. I love all the performances. Really superb!
This sunday the four groups will once again compete but this time in broad daylight and on the beachfront. So expect changes in costumes, accessories, routines and even props.
Yesterday’s performances is 70% of the total score, while this Sundays dance at the Villa beach is 30%.
Kaloka lang during the performances, just after the group#2 performed, something exploded, and **poof** everything went dim. Nagbrown out! And when the last group performed, their boat-shaped float caught fire. Kaloka! good thing the staff was quick enough to control it, and the dancers were also alert to move out of the float.
If you are just in Iloilo or in the nearby provinces, like Roxas, Antique, Bacolod, Negros Occidental, or Guimaras, please come to the Villa Beach in Iloilo City this Sunday. The Paraw Regatta will start at around 7AM, and the Sinamba sa Paraw Regatta performances will commence at 8AM. See you in iloilo!

Terrifying naman ang nangyari. Mabuti na lang walang nasaktan.
