Victorias City Negros Occidental Philippines celebrated its 13th Charter Day anniversary yesterday by holding the annual Kadalag-an Festival 2011. This year, 13 groups participated in the annual streetdancing competition among the city barangays.
This is my first time to witness the Kadalag-an Festival and I a few months back, I decided to sponsor a group joining in this year’s contest. More than just providing the needed costume materials and accessories, I also stayed in Barangay 15A, th group I supported, for almost one month to monitor the team’s rehearsals. I also helped in making sewing the accessories to the costumes and headress. It was a very labor intensive job but I totally enjoyed it.
The almost-one-month stay in Victorias opened up a new window of oppurtunities for me., It was a great learning experience for me. It has taught me the value of trust and the importance of teamwork in every endeavor.
The stay in Victorias City is very fun and memorable. Of course, I also had ups and downs too. . But the whole new experience has just made me an even stronger person.
I have seen how our dancers stay late at night EVERYDAY for the rehearsals. I have seen how they undergo rigorous taining to become better performers.
I am so proud of our dancers. Every rehearsals, I just watch them dance to the festival music, but last Monday March 21, I was the team’s Number 1 Fan and Cheerleader.
The streetdance ended at around 2PM. Our group from Brgy 15 and 15A landed as First Runner Up in contest. We also bagged the Best in Costume and the Best in Headress Award. If only we were able to perform at the Judging Area #1 we could have been declared the Festival Champion. Well, ganyan talaga ang buhay. I don’t blame anyone of what happened. Walang sisihan dapat. What’s important is to look ahead and prepare for the next year’s performance. Promise babalik ako!
