A Short visit to the Basilica
Posted by on March 30, 2011
Aside from the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral, another site I always visit when I am in Cebu City is the Basilica Minore del Santo Nino, or simply known as Basilica to the locals.
The Basilica Minore del Santo Nino is the home of the mmiraculous image of the Santo Nino or the Infant Jesus that was given as a gift to Queen Juana.
One of the most unique sights inside the Basilica compoud are the old women doing the prayer dance known as Sinulog. And every time I go to Cebu I never fail to buy some candles and ask some women do a sinulog dance for me.
I usually have my sinulog prayer dance performed at the nearby Magellan’s cross. The wooden cross is said to have been planted by the Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan in 1521. Today the Magellan’s Cross remains to be one of the most visited sites in Cebu City.
