Review: Canon Powershow SX30 IS
Posted by on April 12, 2011
I have been a DSLR user for the last three years, and I must say, I’m starting to get tired carrying the heavy camera wherever I go. It’s currently dead and I am just oo lazy to bring it to the repair shop.

I was just so lucky that last month, Canon, through their PR arm Agatep, allowed me to use/revie the Canon Powershot SX30 IS Digital Camera.
Coming from DSLR, one of the first things I truly noticed is its weight. The Canon SX30 is very light, but it doesn’t mean that its function is also “light”.
I was able to test the camera when I was in Cebu, Bacolod, Victorias City and in Manapla Negros Occidental. Among the first things I noticed with the photos is its soft edges. Another thing I noticed with the camera is its slow ability to autofocus and adjust the zoom lens.
But on a positive side, Canon SX30 Is produces photos that are just bursting with colors. Perfect for outdoor shoot or during vacations.
I also tried to shoot videos and the output is in .mov HD format. the video is good and the sound is so crisp. Unfortunately I have to downgrade the quality of the vids which I haveto upload in Youtube as Internet connectio is really s-l-o-w.
The macro is good too. Although I also had some focusing problems at times. I find it useful when taking photos of foods and details of our costumes and headress. The 35x lens is probably one of the camera’s selling point. No need to go closer to your subject as its powerful zoom lens can do the job.
The image stabilization feature is also good especially for people like me who has shaky hands. The camera also has shooting modes similar to a real SLR, like shutter-priority, apperture priority, or full manual, etc. One has the option to go automatic or fully manual.
Oh, another thing, I love the 2.7″ Vari-angle LCD Monitor. Now taking photos from the top view or from the ground level is just a breeze. Taking self portraits is no longer a hit or miss too!
