Weekend Getaway in Puerto Princesa
Posted by on June 27, 2011
Last weekend I flew to Puerto Princesa Palawan with other bloggers Mica, Anton, Winston, Roch, Robbie and JC for a weekend of fun and endless adventure, courtesy of AirPhil Express.
Our call time was set at 5:30AM. I was a bit scared that I might be left behind since I will be traveling all the way from Laguna to NAIA T3. But to make sure that I wont be left behind, I already made the Web Check In, a few hours before our flight.
Upon arrival we then headed to Marianne Home Inn where we will be staying for the next 3 days. From there we then took a shuttle that would bring us to the Honda Bay port.
Upon arrival, we registered as a group then took the whole day Honda Bay Tour. Our package tour includes visit to the Pandan Island, Snake Island and option between Pambato Reef or Starfish island.
I totally enjoyed feeding the colorful fishes in Pandan Island as well as in Starfish island. Good thing we brought a lot of bread for our fish feeding activity. Enjoy na enjoy ako talaga! Its not everyday that I get to swim and feed the fishes!
We had our hearty lunch at the Pandan Reef. We were served with grilled pork, chicken adobo, fried fish, sliced cucumber. Perfect foods for picnic lunch!
From the Pandan Reef we then transferred to the Snake Island. I was named as such because of the shape of the island. The fishes in Snake Island is more varied and much larger. The only problem we encountered when we were there was the poor visibility because of the clouds.
From the Snake Island, we then headed towards the Pambato Reef. I have been to this place before but I was still excited to see it again. Unfortunately, The waves are getting stronger every minute so I decided not to snorkel the site. Nakakatakot na ang alon!
And just before sundown, we rode our pump boat for the very last time as it headed back towards the port. We then took our shuttle and went back to our accommodation. After dinner we then we out for another one of a kind must-see tour: The FireFly Tour in Iwahig River!
This is a new activity launched in Puerto Princesa. The tour only started in 2008 after the help of some NGOs and private individuals to maintain the pristine state of the river.
Fireflies are known to be indicators of how clean a surrouonding is. These glowing creatures are only known to survive in very clean environment with lush mangrove trees. So it is not a surprise that you could not see any firefly in Metro Manila.
There were three of us on a banca plus the bangkero. I got mezmerized at the sight of thousands of fireflies in mangroves. The trees actualy look like a Christmas tree. During the 45-minute tour its only the noise of the boat and the crickets that you get to hear.
Nakaka amaze talaga! Then sudenly our boat man asked us to check the water, he pointed to us some glowing creatures underwater. He explained to us that it was actually a type of plankton that shows bioluminescent characteristics. Ang ganda talaga! this is not the first time I have experienced a bioluminous organism. When I was in Callao Cave with Marc last year, we also discovered some species of ferns with characteristics similar to that of hologram stickers. They would glow depending on your angle.
I don’t have any photo or video of the firefly tour as it was very hard to shoot them under the starlit skies. I guess this is one tour that should be experienced, rather than just view the photos or in Youtube.
From the Iwahig firefly Tour we then went back to hotel to rest. To be continued…

Parang Sandman lang sa second pic!
