Kadayawan sa Davao Festival 2012

Madayaw! That’s the greeting you would normally hear in Davao City. And this August, the city will be celebrating Kadayawan sa Davao Festival 2012. Kadayawan is the biggest festival celebration.
The term Kadayawan is taken from a Mandaya word “Madayaw” which is a warm greeting used by the locals.
Every year, the ethnic tribes of Davao would converge at the city to give thanks for the bountiful harvest. Just in time for the fiesta, is also the peak season of durian, hailed as the King of Tropical fruit, which is very abundant in Davao.
Various events are lined up leading to the climax which is usually held every third week of August. this year. the Festival Highlights are as follows:
August 18 – Indak indak sa kadalanan (Street dancing Competition)
August 19 – Pamulak sa Kadalanan (Floral float competition)
It is also interesting to note that this year’s kadayawan sa Davao 2012 coincides with the annual celebration of Eidl Fit’r. The biggest celebration of Muslim after the month-long fasting during Ramadan.
