Makati celebrates Caracol Festival 2012
Posted by on February 27, 2012
I was in Makati City yesterday to cover the annual celebration of the Caracol Festival 2012. I am so thrilled to cover to event, since the last time I witnessed this festival was way back in 2008.
I am so excited to see Ayala Avenue turned into a boulevard of festive colors of flora and fauna showcasing the dazzling vibe of Makati.
During the competition, 9 groups participated in 3 categories. Three for the elementary Category, three for high school and another three for the college/open category.
Caracol is the official festival of the city whose main purpose is to raise awareness on the importance of preserving our natural resources.
Students from various schools clad in colorful costumes danced along the Ayala Avenue dressed up as flowers, lions, frogs, lizards, fairies among others. The Caracol Festival is one particular event where the youth can express their creativity and playful imagination while inculcating in them the importance of protecting our environment.
Caracol Festival is Makati’s very own festival. It should have its own distinct flavor. I just wonder why choreographers need to use MassKara Festival and and Sinulog Music. There are a lot of good music that you can remix for your dances. I have seen one group with a remix of MassKara Music and several other groups using the Sinulog Music and another group using the Palawod Festival jingle of Bantayan Island as its music. I hope choreographers can be more creative in making their music next time. Try to make music that is not associated with other festivals.
Inline with the efforts of Makati City Government in further enlivening the city, Ayala Land supports the Caracol Festival and is undertaking other exciting events and development projects through the “Make it Happen, Make it Makati” campaign. All these initiatives serves as testaments to the city’s dominance as the country’s unrivaled city not just for business but also for lifestyle, entertainment, and culture.
The event was a blast. The performances yesterday is much much better compared to the performances I had seen four years ago. I really had a great time taking photos and watching the performances along the Ayala Avenue. I hope that I can still cover this event next year.

Ang cute naman ng costume ng mga bagets!
agree mica…. parang ang saya nga magcostume din eh…. @byahilo – nagkita kyo ni kevin?
@ian> di kmi nagkita eh. si oggie and Ferdz ang nakita ko dun kahapon. and some other bloggers.
anung ibig sabihin ng CARACOL? saka san nakuha yung word na yun?
Caracol is a Spanish word for Snail.
I’m glad you had the time to visit Makati for the Caracol Festival. I agree with you with the music. They could’ve been more creative and risky on the tunes but I guess their influence is still the traditional sounding “competition” music. More power to Biyahilo!
