When I first learned that Kalanggaman Island is part of our 6-day PHILTOA Media Familiarization Tour in Eastern Visayas, I really got excited.

Technically speaking, Kalanggaman is not an island, but is just an Islet. it is still under the jurisdiction of the Municipality of Palompon in the Province of Leyte.
One of the towns we got to discover during our 6-day Media Familiarization Tour last week was Guiuan, Eastern Samar. Most of the time, Guiuan Samar is out of the tourist radar and because of this it only receives a handful of tourists exploring the place.

This is oe of Eastern Visayas’ newest attraction! Opened only late last year, the Torpedo adventure runs through the Ulot River in the town of Paranas, Samar. The town of Paranas is approximately an our and a half ride away from Tacloban City. The river is said to be the longest in the island at around 90 kilometers in length. With the Torpedo Boat adventure you get to ride a boat that has no outriggers (katig) on it. So you get to experience the swaying of the boat while it cruises the 10.5 kilometer stretch.

I only heard of Biri last year when sir Gerry Ruiz and his wife invited me to join them to travel to Biri, Northern Samar supposedly last March 2011. I tried to Google what’s in store for us, and I got blown away at the photos I saw in in the search engine. Unfortuately my flight got cancelled due to several commitments, and my plan to visit Biri got shelved. Up until I got an invitation to explore the hidden gems of Eastern Visayas together with the Members of PHILTOA and the media last week! It was a dream come true for me to actually set foot in this place!
